November 2020 UPDATE

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, HLCnova held a Touchpoint meeting at 10:30 AM.  Three new members were present along with 4 members of long-standing.  We had wonderful captioning from Virginia Relay that NVRC helped to facilitate (many thanks to NVRC staff). Two requests from the new members were to continue monthly Touchpoint meetings and share resources with each other on practicing with new cochlear implant devices. One new member was implanted 3 months ago and another new member was getting her new implant on the following Monday, November 9th.  We shared stories, questions, and advice about the expectations of CIs and issues about masks, microphones, and technological improvements.

Touchpoint is open and free to anyone.  If you are interested in joining us, please contact info@hlcnova.org for the December meeting date & time and Zoom link information.  In addition, the next HLCnova newsletter in early December will have the new Touchpoint meeting date and time.  Hope to see you!

REMEMBER:

Dr. Michael Hoa, will present, “Updates on Hearing: Active Bone Conduction Hearing Options, Consensus Guidelines for CI Evaluation Referral, and Candidacy, and Hearing Restoration at the Forefront of Science and Medicine.”  He was mobbed at the end of his presentation last year and this update on his research will interest anyone who wants to know more about what science is doing in the hearing loss field.  As usual, his PowerPoint slides will be available afterward, let me know if you would like them.  In addition, if his team of audiologists is available, they will be willing to take questions at the end of the presentation. A notice will be sent to all members November  18th with entry information.
